Privacy Policy
What is personal data?
This is information that you provide to us which personally identifies you, such as your name, email address or billing information, or other data that can be reasonably linked to such information by us.
1. How we protect your data
Jacapo are committed to respecting the agency of our users and doing everything in our power to respect their privacy and keep your data secure.
We fully adhere to the European General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) ('GDPR'), and vow to go above and beyond this to keep your information safe from any unauthorized disclosure or access from unauthorised parties.
2. The types of data we collect, and why we collect it
Here is a comprehensive list of the data we collect, and how it’s used.
Account data:
This is the data we collect when you sign up for an account, for example:

We will use your phone number to send a verification code to your phone, and we will also use it to sync your contacts and connect you with friends already on the platform (optional).
Profile data:
This is optional data you can add to your profile page, for example:

A short biography

The city in which you live or stay

Your Instagram handle
We display this data on your profile page for the purposes of making the app a more social experience. This data makes it easier for people to find and follow you, and makes it easier for you to do the same.
Experience data:
Optional data you can add on Jacapo, for example:

Lists of your favourite places

Tips on what to eat or drink

Photos*
We share this data with other users as it is the core experience of the app. Sharing your favourite places / dishes to eat.
*Uploading photos will require granting Jacapo access to your camera roll in ‘settings’.
Location data:
This is optional data which you will have to enable in settings.
Precise location: The Jacapo app uses your precise location to show your current position on a map, but we don’t collect it (your precise location never leaves your device).
Course location (lat/lng rounded to 3 decimal places): We use your course location to show relevant content for your area, for example places on the map or nearby places in the search.
3. Who we share your personal data with
Unless required to by law, or required for the necessary operation of the app, we will not share your personal data with any third parties.
By personal data, we mean data that is directly connected to your identity.
It is however necessary to share your data with some service providers, who provide our back end analytics and storage facilities. These providers are not allowed to use the data we share with them in any way other than to provide the service that we pay them for which are necessary to the operation of the app. Who we share this data with, and the reasons for us doing so are listed below…
a) Mixpanel; who provide product analytics to help us improve the Jacapo app. You can see a list of the data that Mixpanel collect HERE
b) AWS; who provide our storage and hosting services
c) Jacapo makes use of Google Maps API. As such, your use of Google maps is subject to the Google Privacy Policy
Both ours, and our suppliers' handling of all data abides by the rules set out with regards to GDPR and ensures the protection of your rights.
We will not sell, license, rent, or otherwise disclose your personal data to any third party without your consent.

4. How long we hold onto your personal data
We will store your data for the duration of you holding a registered user account with us. You can choose at any time to delete your account by emailing us at support@jacapo.app.
5. Your rights regarding your data
You have the following rights to do with your personal data:
Access. You have the right to access the data Jacapo holds about you. This allows you to receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you and to check that we are lawfully processing it.
Rectification or erasure. You have the right to request that Jacapo rectify or delete any personal data that we hold about you (unless we have the legal right to retain it). If you request that we erase any personal data that we require in order for Jacapo to work for you, you may no longer be able to use the platform.
Data portability. You have the right to obtain personal data Jacapo holds about you, in a structured, electronic format, and to transfer that data to another organisation.
Restriction. You also have the right to restrict Jacapo from processing your personal data if the data is inaccurate, the processing is unlawful or we no longer need your personal data for the purposes of operating the platform.
Complaints. If for any reason you are not happy with the way that Jacapo has handled your data, please contact us. If you are still not happy, you have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Automated decision making. We do not carry out automated profiling using children’s data. If you would like to exercise any of the rights mentioned above, please contact us using the details set out below
In case you decide to erase personal data or completely remove your account we process this request as fast as possible. Due to technical reasons, this may take some time, however, always within the time frame required by law. Please be aware that when your personal information is removed, this process is irreversible.

6. Where we store your data
For Jacapo to operate it is required that we share your data with certain third parties for the purposes of storage and analytics.
We use Mixpanel for our analytics and AWS (Amazon web services) for storage.
The use of these data processing services means that your data may be stored outside the European Economic Area (EEA) in locations such as the United states.
Both of these suppliers process your data on our behalf and with industry standard, stringent security measures in place always.
Whilst Jacapo will take every commercially viable step to ensure the safety of your data, Unfortunately, no website, application, computer system or online communication is completely secure. Jacapo cannot guarantee that unauthorized access, hacking, data loss, or other breaches will never occur. Your use of the App is at your own risk.
7. Third party links
On occasion Jacapo may contain links to third-party websites, for example we may link to a restaurant’s website, a user’s Instagram page or a booking platform.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices associated with these third-party websites. This Privacy Policy applies only to the personal information collected and used by the Jacapo app.
8. Children Policy
Jacapo is not directed to anyone under the age of 13. If you are under 13, you must not use Jacapo.

9. Cookies
When you share an invite we use cookies to track that invite code so you don't have to enter it again. This is the only cookie in the jar.
10. Notification of changes
Jacapo may at any time and in its sole discretion, add, modify, or remove any feature, function or portion of the App, the Terms, and/or the Privacy Policy, in whole or in part, with or without notice to you, prior or otherwise.
Any changes to the Privacy Policy will be effective as of the posting date. Jacapo will provide prominent notice on the App of any major changes to the Privacy Policy. Your continued use of the App after Jacapo posts any modifications to the Privacy Policy shall be deemed your explicit acceptance of those modifications and shall constitute your agreement to comply with the Privacy Policy, as modified.
